Do you like Doctor Who?

Yesterday was an incredibly busy day from start to finish and I'm really saying TGIF today because I worked all last weekend too!

But tonight, I'm going out with a few of my favorite people to celebrate because EDIT YOUR WAY RELEASED YESTERDAY in both digital and print!

I'm so so so proud of this book and the reviews coming in have been absolutely amazing. I'm so fortunate to be able to share some glowing reviews, including this one. How can you not love a review that starts with "Angela James is one of my very favorite editors" and then goes on to say "The book is filled with nuggets for authors at ALL stages of their career."

This was my very exact goal with this book and to see someone else say it in writing is extremely gratifying. Yay!

I should start by saying I'm biased. Angela James is one of my very favorite editors, not least because she dedicates so much time to helping small authors become big authors. So I knew I was going to love this book, filled with everything you need to edit your manuscript (with a view to then sending it to a professional editor), but I didn't know I was going to love it this much! Brimming with clear and detailed guides to each step of the editing process, and yet respecting Angela's 'motto' about 'forgetting the writing rules', she talks about voice, pacing, characters and world building, she teaches us the editing stages (developmental, copy etc.) and she also guides us through using technology, in regards to editing. What I loved : Angela has YEARS of experience, and knows her stuff, and it shows. The book is filled with nuggets for authors at ALL stages of their career. Even if you think you know how to edit a book you can't help but learn something new from reading it. The Appendices which are MINES of information and range from suggestions of different ways of reading this book, depending on what you're looking to gain from it, to editing checklists and templates to put what you've learnt into action. Recommended reading for authors at every stage of their career.

Thanks to all of you who pre-ordered and bought yesterday, the book reached #2 in one of its categories on Amazon, and hit the highest ranking it's gotten to in the other two categories. These are small, niche categories but it's still fun to see it up there with the #1 New Release banner, and to be on the same screen as Strunk & White, but to also crack into one of the top spots in categories that are generally dominated by men. We need more diverse voices writing publishing/grammar/author reference books for sure!

Now, I have to share a funny (to me) personal tidbit with you. Years ago when I first started thinking about making Before You Hit Send a book, I started collecting things to offer for a giveaway to support my eventual book's release. Somehow, I created a Doctor Who bundle of prizes, and there are some very cool things in this prize bundle (including a Doctor Who clock made from a vinyl album).

I don't know WHY I thought a Doctor Who-themed prize pack was the way to go but...I still have all those items, along with some author-themed prizes.

I've been trying to decide if I should use the Doctor Who bundle for a giveaway or donate it to a local non-profit organization who does quarter auctions and raffles, to help them raise money.
