This fall, I developed a workshop as a master class for a writer’s conference I was invited to speak at, and all they asked is that I talk about editing.

Lucky for them, I have a LOT to say about editing,😂 and it was fun to develop a new workshop to add to my portfolio.

One of the things I often try to address is the idea that editing can often feel overwhelming, chaotic, or that you don’t know how to fix things (or when to fix them.)

My goal with this workshop was to make it all feel a little bit easier, while reflecting what's inside Edit Your Way.

Introducing: The 4 Stages of Editing: Fix the Right Things…At the Right Time

Editing is one of the hardest parts of writing—not because writers lack skill, but because most writers are never taught how to edit in a clear, structured way.

So you guess.

You spiral.

You over-edit.

You under-edit

You polish things that are going to get cut (oops).

You get stuck.

You spiral some more.

This workshop, which is based off the same principles as in Edit Your Way, aims to change that cycle and make it feel a bit less familiar so you don't feel so much like you're at the scene of a bloody, unsolvable crime, but instead are the Miss Marple (or Hercule Poirot) of your own story. Able to figure it all out seemingly with ease.

Here’s What I’ll Cover:

This is a full two-hour live session (yes there will be a replay), where I walk you through the four editing stages every manuscript needs:

• Developmental Editing: strengthening plot, pacing, character arcs, conflict, and structure
• Line Editing: tightening prose, improving clarity, enhancing rhythm and emotion
• Copy Editing: consistency, accuracy, style sheets, technical fixes
• Proofreading: the final polish before your book goes out into the world

You’ll learn what belongs in each stage, what doesn’t, and how to revise in a way that protects your voice and brings the story to life for the best reader experience.

By the end, you’ll have the start of a clear editing system you can use for every manuscript you ever write.
